About the author

Michael Neiger is long-time wilderness guide who's organized 100s of backpacking, canoeing, canyoneering, caving, and winter-camping trips, expeditions, and SAR operations in Michigan and Canada over the last 30 years.

He has paddled solo from the Lake Superior area to the Arctic Ocean, and skied solo from the northernmost plowed road in Ontario, Canada to lower Hudson Bay on the Arctic Ocean.

A 25-year veteran of the Michigan State Police, he's currently the lead investigator with Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue (MibSAR)—www.MibSAR.com—a Long Range Special Operations Group (SOG) that assists law enforcement agencies in Upper Michigan, and Ontario, Canada, with criminal and non-criminal cold-case investigations, particularly those involving missing-persons in remote wilderness areas.

Michael spends upwards of 100 nights in the bush annually, and he enjoys long-distance running and swimming.

When he's not in the bush, he resides in Marquette, Michigan, along the south shore of Lake Superior.

Seek not the wilderness trip of a lifetime, but a lifetime of wilderness tripping. —Michael's credo
